É inquestionável a importância de trabalhos que provocam, adequadamente, a aproximação de línguas e culturas, sobretudo da cidade de São Paulo, pluriétnica e pluricultural por excelência. No caso das culturas orientais em nosso meio, avulta a importância da cultura árabe - muçulmana veiculada pelo imigrante, cuja presença em São Paulo é ininterrupta desde 1918, com nítida influência no comportamento do paulistano, observado sobre os ângulos mais diversos, desde hábitos sociais, alimentares, atividades profissionais, usos e costumes, variadas concepções estéticas e até mesmo no linguajar.Apesar da reconhecida influência do elemento árabe - muçulmano na realidade paulistana, não se tem conhecimento de trabalhos que tenham explorado densamente a relação entre as culturas em questão.Sendo assim, a proposta apresentada pela dissertação "A Imigração Árabe-Muçulmana na Cidade de São Paulo: A Influência Religiosa nos Contatos Interétnicos e Etnoligüísticos dos Imigrantes" é estabelecer essa relação a partir do aspecto religioso que, sem dúvida, foi determinante no modo de organização, estabelecimento e inserção deste grupo religioso - imigratório na cidade de São Paulo. A identificação da religião como um fator dominante na compreensão do árabe - muçulmano e nas suas manifestações enquanto imigrante se faz necessária, uma vez que, no mundo árabe, a identidade nacional mescla-se e até confunde-se com a identidade religiosa e lingüística

The importance of the efforts, which properly cause the languages' and cultures' approach-mainly multiethnic and multicultural-especially in Sao Paulo's city, is incontestable. Concerning the oriental cultures in our region, we emphasize the importance of the Arabian-Moslem culture which was introduced by the immigrants, whose presence in Sao Paulo is uninterrupted since 1918, with a clear influence on the behavior of Sao Paulo's native persons observed from the most different angles, from food, social customs, professional activities, habits and customs, different esthetics conceptions and even on the speech.In spite of the recognized influence of the Arabian-Moslem element in Sao Paulo's reality, there is no awareness of works which have intensively exploited the relation between the cultures in question.Therefore, the proposal presented by the essay "The Arabian-Moslem Immigration in the city of Sao Paulo: The Immigrants' Religious Influence on the inter-ethnics and ethno-linguistics contacts" is to establish this relation from the religious aspect which, with no doubt, was decisive in the organization, establishment way and insertion of this religious-migratory group in the city of Sao Paulo. It's necessary to identify the religion as a dominant factor in the comprehension of the Arabic-Moslem person and in his manifestations as an immigrant, since in the Arabic world, the national identity is blended and even confounded with the religious and linguistic identity
