O objetivo desta pesquisa é analisar as reais possibilidades do exercício da cidadania na comarca de SantAnna do Paranahyba, Mato Grosso, durante o Segundo Império, através da análise de processos-crime. Para isso, foi estudado o cotidiano das pessoas comuns daquela localidade, inclusive a forma como encaravam os crimes, a estrutura física e burocrática do Poder Judiciário de SantAnna,e como se dava a relação entre a população e os juízes.Pretende-se, assim, lançar luz sobre a formação do Estado brasileiro em Mato Grossoe, principalmente, para um de seus braços mais esquecidos, o Poder Judiciário.

The objective of this research is to analyze the effectiveness of citizenship in the district of Sant'Anna Paranahyba, Mato Grosso, during the Second Empire, through the analysis of criminal cases. For this, we studied the daily lives of ordinary people of that locality, including how they perceived the crimes, the physical and bureaucratic structure of the Judiciary of Sant'Anna, and how was the relationship between people and the judges. The aim is thus to illuminate the formation of the Brazilian state in Mato Grosso, and especially one of his arms most forgotten, the Judiciary.
