Esta dissertação almeja visitar a historiografia acerca das Cruzadas a fim de fazer algumas ressalvas ao uso tradicional deste conceito, sobretudo no que diz respeito à Primeira Cruzada (1096-1099). Existem basicamente três correntes que se voltam para as Cruzadas: a tradicionalista, a dos pluralistas e a dos generalistas. Da mais restritiva forma de conceituação à mais abrangente. Para compreendermos o sentido das Cruzadas, precisamos recuar no tempo, é necessário que se compreenda um processo. Almejamos compreender a relação estabelecida entre a Igreja Católica e a guerra no século XI, nosso recorte temporal proeminente. Em três capítulos, buscamos responder a algumas perguntas considerando pesquisas historiográficas também mais recentes, ou seja, desejamos estabelecer o estado da arte. Primeiramente, estudaremos as concepções acerca da tese da revolução feudal, bem como as contestações desta. Esse processo transformador teria ocorrido no Ano Mil, após a desestruturação do Império Carolíngio. Esta teria contribuído para a gênese das instituições da Paz de Deus e da Trégua de Deus, cujas expansões ganharam sua marca na primeira metade do século XI. Após isso, visitamos os conceitos de Guerra Santa e Guerra Justa, para finalmente chegarmos ao que ficou consagrado na historiografia como Primeira Cruzada, a jornada dos cristãos em direção a Jerusalém convocada por Urbano II.

This dissertation aims to visit the historiography about the crusades in order to make some reservations about the traditional use of this concept, especially with regard to the First Crusade (1096-1099). There are basically three currents that turn to the crusades: the traditionalist, the pluralist and the generalist. From the most restrictive form of conceptualization to the broadest. To understand the meaning of the crusades, we need to go back in time, it is necessary to understand a process. We aim to understand the relationship established between the Catholic Church and war in the 11th century, our prominent time frame. In three chapters, we seek to answer some questions considering historiographic research that is also more recent, that is, we want to establish the state of the art. First, we are going to study the conceptions about the Feudal Revolution thesis, as well as its contestations. This transformative process would have taken place in the Year Thousand, after the breakdown of the Carolingian Empire. This would have contributed to the genesis of the institutions of the Peace of God and the Truce of God, whose expansions gained their stamp in the first half of the 11th century. After that, we visit the concepts of Holy War and Just War, to finally arrive at what was enshrined in historiography as the First Crusade, the journey of Christians towards Jerusalem called by Urban II.
