Este trabalho foi escrito com o objetivo de demonstrar, através de uma revisão historiográfica, que a condenação de 1277, promulgada em Paris pelo bispo Étienne Tempier contra 219 teses de origem greco-árabe, não representou um bloqueio à ciência pela autoridade eclesiástica. Para isso fizemos, inicialmente, uma nova tradução do decreto e destas 219 teses, e selecionamos dentre elas, para organizá-las e estudá-las à parte, aquelas que consideramos mais diretamente relacionadas com o que se pensava então do mundo e de seu funcionamento. A seguir, identificamos os principais temas, autores e debates envolvidos, através de uma análise minuciosa de cada uma destas teses selecionadas. Para isso, servimo-nos dos trabalhos de Roland Hissette e David Piché, com os quais tivemos também oportunidade de avaliar o significado deste evento para os censores, para os filósofos condenados, e para nós hoje. E para completar, estudamos também, através das obras de Pierre Duhem, as repercussões desta condenação nas discussões escolásticas do século XIV. Consideramos, por fim, necessário integrar estes estudos ao contexto da Universidade de Paris no século XIII, e situá-los em relação às visões de mundo envolvidas.

The present work was written to demonstrate, through a historiographical review, that the Condemnation of 1277, promulgated by Bishop Étienne Tempier in Paris against 219 theses of Greek-Arab origin, did not represent a blockage to science by ecclesiastical authority. For that, we initially proposed a new translation of the decree and the 219 theses, and selected among them, to organize and study them separately, those that we considered most directly related to what was the conception of the world and its functioning at that time. Then, we identified the main themes, authors and debates involved, through a meticulous analysis of each selected thesis. For that, we used the works of Roland Hissette and David Piché, who helped us to understand the meaning of this event for the censors, for the condemned philosophers and for us today. Furthermore, through the works of Pierre Duhem, we studied the repercussion of this condemnation in the scholastic discussion of the 14th century. Finally, we considered it necessary to integrate these studies into the context of the University of Paris in the 13th century, and to situate them in relation to the worldviews involved.
