Este trabalho discute a relação do governo de Getúlio Vargas com a Igreja Católica, que é vasta. O estudo tem como base o desenvolvimento do corporativismo observado nas encíclicas papais Rerum Novarum (1891) e da Quadragesimo Anno (1931), e a análise de sua recepção na Arquidiocese de São Paulo. Através do jornal católico "O Legionário" sob a direção de Plínio Corrêa, têm-se meios de compreender as relações da Igreja Católica com a população brasileira em São Paulo, inclusive com os trabalhadores. O jornal seguia tratando de diversos assuntos importantes e de forma mais direta com os fiéis, como por exemplo: a ação católica, o ensino religioso e o trabalhismo, de modo que a inserção de novos fiéis estivesse em uma ótica principal da Arquidiocese de São Paulo.

This paper discusses the relationship between the government of Getúlio Vargas and the Catholic Church, which is vast. The study is based on the development of corporatism observed in the papal encyclicals Rerum Novarum (1891) and Quadragesimo Anno (1931), and the analysis of its reception in the Archdiocese of São Paulo. Through the Catholic newspaper "O Legionário" under the direction of Plínio Corrêa, we have means to understand the relations of the Catholic Church with the Brazilian population in São Paulo, including the workers. The newspaper continued to deal with several important subjects more directly with the faithful, such as: Catholic action, religious teaching and laborism, so that the insertion of new faithful was in a main perspective of the Archdiocese of São Paulo.
