O objetivo central deste trabalho é compreender como se constituiu uma representação fotográfica da Revolução Mexicana através do álbum Historia Gráfica de la Revolución Mexicana. A investigação procura entender como foram representados os protagonistas revolucionários, seus líderes e classes populares, como se elaborou uma imagem do poder político, uma visualidade do social, e como se constituiu uma imagem da Revolução no álbum. Buscamos também explorar a dinâmica entre a formação do Estado e uma política de elaboração da representação visual. A aproximação entre cultura e poder, através de rituais, de ações simbólicas, da representação e da construção de um imaginário social, pode ser entendida a partir da elaboração da narrativa visual do álbum. Procuramos também estabelecer a vinculação entre as instâncias de poder, artistas e intelectuais através da família dos Casasola e de suas publicações. A periodização da pesquisa balizou-se entre 1900 e 1940.O projeto do álbum foi executado basicamente por Gustavo Casasola e lançado em forma de fascículos durante a década de 1940. Ampliado continuamente, sua primeira publicação em livro deu-se em 1960 e a segunda edição em 1973, pela Editorial Trillas. Para a sua edição foram utilizadas fotografias do "Arquivo Casasola", um rico acervo com cerca de seiscentas mil peças, colecionadas pelo pai, Agustín Casasola e por outros membros da família. Esse acervo, enriquecido com a compra de fotografias de outros fotógrafos, hoje se encontra na Fototeca de Pachuca, vinculada ao Instituto Nacional de Antropologia e História, órgão do Estado mexicano

In this research, we tried to understand how the photographic representation of the Mexican Revolution was organized and presented in the album Historia Gráfica de la Revolución Mexicana.This paper is an atempt to analyze the revolutionary protagonists, their leaders and other revolutionary participants representations in order to verify how the political power, the society and the revolutionary images had been elaborated in the album.We tried to understand how the the New State constitution was visually represented.We also intended to establish a relationship among different power instances representatives , artists and intellectuals, concentrating on the Casasola family as our central point and taking its publications as our research source. Using photos as references,we intended to reconstitute the Revolution imaginary.We believe that the visual narrative of the Revolution,in different moments,constituted a significant contribution to the construction of the social imaginary, which is still present in the Mexican society nowadays. The images of the war,of power rituals, and the symbolic actions are key elements of the Revolution historical representation, the main object of our analysis.We have defined the research period from 1900 to 1940.The project of the album was carried out by Gustavo Casasola and it was released in instalment form in the 1940's.Updated continuously,its first publication as a book was in 1960 (the second edition in 1973) by Editorial Trillas publishing house. For the two editions,photographs from "Casasola files" were used.Theses files consisted of a rich collection of about six hundred thousand pieces collected by Agustín Casasola, Gustavo Casasola's father,and other members of the family.This collection, enriched by the purchase of other protographer's material,can be found today in Pachucha Photo Gallery which is linked to the Nacional Institute of Anthropology and History in Mexico
