Abstract in English
This research aims to study the formation of the Brazilian postal system between 1796 and 1829. The investigation attempted to understand the constitution of a communication time topology structured over temporal distances that characterized the circulation of manuscripts and printed documents in Brazil. From the Enlightenment reforms at the end of the XVIIIth century, to the migration of the Portuguese royal family to the Rio de Janeiro, to the Brazilian independence process, this investigation discovered a geographical growth of the postal services and a spacetime compression of its network. Two processes that induced the shortening of distances and an acceleration of communications, indicating a spatial dimension of the time acceleration experience.
