Abstract in English
This work is the result of a historiographical and literary review study about the scenic tradition commonly referred to as Rabinal-Achí, an opus originating from the MayanAchí culture located in the Highlands of southern Guatemala. Considering material and immaterial cultural aspects, we seek to understand the uses, influences, and variations of this production within its historical context, focusing mainly between the 1850s and 1970s, the period in which ethnographic studies in the region are expanding and the two main known written versions are revealed: the bilingual translation (Quiché-French) attributed to the catalographic work of the french abbot Charles-Étienne Brasseur de Bourbourg in 1862, whose production will later be questioned with the discovery of the indigenous document known as the Pérez Manuscript by the american professor Carroll Edward Mace in 1957. In order to broaden this problematization, we seek to bring the aforementioned literary texts closer to the daily practices manifested through the indigenous-christian religiosity, analyzing the influence of conceptions referring to symbologies attached both to the scenic dimension encompassing the costumes and ceremonial instruments used and expressed through the local geography and its relationship with the region's pre-hispanic past.
