Abstract in English
This dissertation intends to collect and analyze the representations of printed media spread by Quino through the images he chose to be part of his graphic humour compilations released between 1987 and 1999. Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón, better known as Quino, was an Argentinian cartoonist who made history in Argentina's printed media with the graphic humour pages he created to newspapers and magazines throughout the 52 years of his career. Part of a young generation who brought modern references to their work and who had a different perspective on their country's political issues; Quino took part in some key moments in the way graphic humour was made in Argentina. One of these moments was when he created Mafalda. Argentinians related to the character so much that she became a national symbol of resistance against oppression. Unfortunately, Mafalda's success pushed the rest of Quino's production aside, with Mafalda always being the subject of academic research or news about Quino's personal life and career. As a first step into changing this scenario, this work is focused only on the cartoonist graphic humour pages and on the messages, he shared, through them, about this mean of communication he knew so much about.
