A presente pesquisa tem por objetivo compreender, por meio das redes de interlocução social do romance The Female Marine (publicado entre 1815 a 1818), de expressões literárias do XIX Norte-americano e de documentos religiosos e administrativos do mesmo período, como a literatura popular dos primeiros anos da independente República representou as desigualdades sociais, principalmente aquelas localizadas no bairro West Boston entre os anos de 1810 a 1830, bem como buscou inserir essa localidade e suas problemáticas em uma narrativa de unidade nacional. Nesse sentido, têm-se como ponto de partida o romance, seus suportes de publicação, circulação e leitura, e, em um segundo momento, as análises de algumas temáticas levantadas em seu enredo que, em alguma medida, foram permeadas por concepções presentes também nos relatórios religiosos da Boston Female Society for Missionary Proposes, e no documento administrativo Report of the Committee of the subject of pauperism and a House of Industry in the Town of Boston (1821), buscando, dessa forma, evidenciar como tais relatos possibilitam uma abordagem da história social e literatura, principalmente no que se referem às questões de gênero, raça e classe e formação nacional.

This research aims to understand, through the networks of social dialogue of the novel The Female Marine (published between 1815-1818), literary expressions of the 19th North American period and religious and administrative documents from the same period, how the popular literature from the early years of the independent Republic represented social inequalities, mainly those located in the West Boston neighborhood between the years 1810 to 1830, as well as seeking to insert this location and its problems in a narrative of national unity. In this sense, we started with the novel, its supports for publication, circulation and reading, and, in a second moment, the analysis of some themes raised in its plot that, to some extent, were permeated by concepts also present in the religious reports of the Boston Female Society for Missionary Proposes, and in the administrative document Report of the Committee of the subject of pauperism and the House of Industry in the Town of Boston (1821), seeking, in this way, to show how such reports enable an approach of social history and literature, especially with regard to issues of gender, race and class and national formation.
