O objetivo deste estudo é promover uma reavaliação dos conceitos até então aceitos, com os quais se vem definindo a sociedade mineira do século XVIII enquanto uma civilização de índole barroca. Para isto, procura estabelecer pontos de concordância entre as expressões artísticas e literárias produzidas na segunda metade desse século e as suas ligações com o pensamento reflexivo da época. Propõe averiguar também até que ponto essa idéia de arte difundida e assimilada pelos artistas e clientes locais, foi influenciada pelas transformações ocorridas no período, em especial aquelas motivadas pelo movimento iluminista

The purpose o f this study is to promote a renewal on the well Known and well accepted concepts that have defined the 18th century society in Minas Gerais as baroque tempered civilization. With this objective , this study tries to stablish commom points between artistic and literary expressions produced in the second h a lf o f the 18th century, and its links with the reflexive thought o f that period. It also proposes to investigate to what extent this kind o f art - which was diffiised and assimilated by local artists and costumers - was influenced by the changes occured in that period, taking as an example those changes derived ffom the Enlightenment activity
