The establishment, in the 18th century, of the Luso-american learned societies opened a fertile field for the intelectual discussion about the colonial experience. Interwowen with European and Portuguese nets, the savants elaborated a view of its specificity, the historical continuity and the American territorial boundaries within the process of secularization of the Portuguese empire.
