Este trabalho se propõe ao estudo das técnicas construtivas executadas pelos oficiais mecânicos que atuaram junto às arrematações das obras públicas, na região de Vila de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, posterior Cidade Mariana. Considero a produção de artefatos como construções sociais, aqui representada pelos processos que envolveram este setor da construção civil. As edificações municipais seguiram um percurso burocrático que atendia às disposições contidas nas Ordenações do Reino de Portugal, através das quais as obras superiores à quantia de 1$000 (mil réis) deveriam ser levadas a pregão e contratadas por meio de empreitadas. Para a Vila do Carmo, indico a investigação dos serviços relativos às pontes, calçadas, caminhos e estradas leiloados pela Câmara Municipal, arrematados pelos empreiteiros que oferecessem o menor lance e executados juntamente às suas equipes laborais. Proponho-me à compreensão de elementos variados que compuseram uma fábrica construtiva, perpassada por relações estabelecidas entre Reino, Senado, ofícios mecânicos e habitantes locais. Aponto que este contato também dizia respeito ao domínio sobre um profícuo mercado de trabalho, por parte dos empreiteiros e, nesta perspectiva, a Câmara representou uma importante clientela, para além de órgão regulamentador dos ofícios mecânicos. Até o presente, não localizei manuais práticos ou tratados sob autoria dos construtores analisados; deste modo, privilegiei as fontes camarárias, mais detidamente os Registros das Condições, que consistem em fontes manuscritas nas quais foram registradas as diretrizes para feitura das obras arrematadas. Nestes apontamentos, que representaram a versão em texto dos projetos desenhados - denominados riscos ou plantas busquei as informações relativas às técnicas, ferramentas e matérias-primas que deveriam ser empregadas pelos construtores; e, nas entrelinhas das informações encontradas, inferi diálogos engendrados entre autoridades locais, riscadores e obreiros. Defendo a compreensão desta parcela do universo construtivo colonial, cujos elementos materiais da cultura participaram da confecção das realidades sociais em que foram produzidos; campo este relegado pela historiografia que aborda a história da técnica no período colonial no Brasil.

This work aims to study the constructive techniques performed by the craftsmen who acted on the bids of public works, in the region of Vila de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, later City of Mariana. I consider the production of artifacts as social constructions, represented here by the processes that involved this sector of building. The municipal edifications followed a bureaucratic path linked to the provisions contained in the Ordenações do Reino de Portugal, through which the works over a 1$000 (one thousand réis) should be brought to a public auction sale and contracted out by master builders. To the Vila do Carmo I indicate the investigation of services related to bridges, sidewalks, paths and roads, auctioned by the City Council, whose auction was won by the builder offering the lowest price and executed together with their labor teams. I propose to understand the various elements that made up a constructive manufactory, permeated by relations established between Kingdom, Senate, craftsmen and locals. I point out that this contact also concerned the mastery of a fruitful labor market by contractors, and, in this perspective, in addition to being a regulatory body, the Chamber was configured as a profitable client for contractors. Thus far, I have not found practical manuals or treatises authored by the analyzed builders, so I have favored the city hall sources, more closely the Condition Records, which consist of handwritten sources in which the guidelines for making the works were recorded. In these notes, which represented the text version of the designed projects - called risks or plants I sought information on the techniques, tools, and raw materials that should be employed by the builders; and, by the information found between the lines, I infer dialogues engendered between local authorities, scribers and workers. I defend the understanding of this part of the colonial constructive universe, whose material elements of culture participated in the making of the social realities in which they were produced. This field is relegated by historiography that addresses the history of technique in the colonial period in Brazil.
