Abstract in English
This thesis proposes a reading exercise that articulates history, imagination and experience through a collection of novels by the Argentine writer Pedro Orgambide (1929-2003). Encompassing the works: Aventuras de Edmund Ziller en tierras del Nuevo Mundo (1976), El arrabal del mundo (1983), Hacer la América (1984), Pura memoria (1985) and La convaleciente (1987), this collection fictionally crosses Argentine history and presents entangled in its plots part of the author's experience living in exile in Mexico between October 1974 and January 1984. This is a reflection about the possibilities of the relationship between history and literature built through representations and figurations of Argentine exile in Mexico, pointing to fiction as a privileged space for the construction of meaning, to understand how different temporalities are articulated in the act of reading and how the present of writing (re)constructs the past before the experience of exile. From a distance, Orgambide's relationship with his country, Argentina, and his day-to-day life was redefined through a re-reading of his history provided by the experience and the social and political criticism mobilized by the distance, thus relating different temporalities in a process of construction of meaning against a horizon of exile, violence, and political defeats.
