História do Brasil - Economia

Abstract in English
The intense political mobilization which took place in Brazil during the years of 1963 and 1964 expressed the need for social changes in the country. The economic growth which occurred in the 50's increased the Brazilian dependence on international capitalism as will as its income concentration. The workers' organization was on the increase, and supporting them were the progressive sectors of society. These sectors demanded nationalistic development along with the social reform that would lead, the majority of the population to higher life standards. Amidst such ideological strife, the newspaper "Brasil, Urgente", created by a catholic group, came forward as the people's newspaper for social justice. It assumed the role of forming the opinion of Brazilian catholic left-wingers. This study of the economic proposals published in the newspaper mentioned above as well as its contextualization is an attempt to understand some aspects of that historic conjuncture
