Abstract in English
This thesis aims to examine the economic thought of French Dominican Louis-Joseph Lebret. Being produced after the Second World War these thoughts are aimed to be answers to the challenges of capitalism and socialism. Collected under the name of "Économie et Humanisme", Lebret's ideas were based on humanist principles that valued the dialogue between Economy and other sciences. François Perroux 's saying: "to develop all men and 'the whole man" summarizes Lebret's new conception of Economy. From the exam of the intellectual production of Lebret, we concluded that his ideas were based in Christian and ethics premises, revealing his belief in an economic development from an encompassing point of view on human needs. To correctly understand Lebret's ideas on economic development we will exam his trajectory and references in the field of Theology and Philosophy; his economic thought, revealing Lebret's position about people well-being; and his action in São Paulo, since 1947, considering the lines of action of SAGMACS.
