Abstract in English
This thesis aims to analyze the trajectory of Editorial Vitória Limitada, the main enterprise in the history of the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) in the publishing field between 1944 and 1964. This period goes from the lawfulness of the party in the 1940s to the civil-military coup in 1964. It starts by analyzing the inception of the publishing house and the agents involved in its consolidation in the 40s, its network of distributors and bookstores, and later approaching its books distribution around Brazil via postal reimbursement and in the transatlantic space, culminating in its arrival in Portugal. Later on, the analysis focuses on the publishing house's catalog from the perspective of their books' graphic design and paratext, considering two different moments: the Stalinist period (1944-1956) and the de-Stalinization period (1956-1964). Ultimately, the objective is to understand the relation between the editorial line and the proponent political line and the role of this publishing house in the diffusion of Marxist literature in Brazil.
