Esse estudo teve como objetivo analisar as relações entre poder político e constituição econômica do patrimônio fundiário para perceber de que modo essa conjuntura refletiu no aumento de conflitos agrários, motivados, sobretudo, pela valorização da terra, resultado da expansão da economia algodoeira. Discutimos, inicialmente, de que forma a criação das comarcas está diretamente relacionada ao fortalecimento do poder judiciário e de que modo a Comarca de São João do Cariri, criada em 1854, se tornou a maior da região, tanto no que se refere à extensão territorial, e, principalmente, como a influência da mesma reverberou na política e, por sua vez, nas questões fundiárias. Em seguida, abordamos a forma como acúmulo de bens patrimoniais foi decisivo na edificação de um lugar de destaque para aqueles indivíduos que eram, ao mesmo tempo, homens que detinham o controle da justiça, na condição de juízes e promotores, e chefes políticos, ou seja, ao mesmo tempo, decidiam os destinos daqueles que buscavam os tribunais para a mediação dos conflitos agrários. Essa abordagem só foi possível através do contato com fontes referentes à demarcação de terra, divisão de propriedades, além daquelas envolvendo crimes fundiários, cometidos, muitas vezes, por cangaceiros, e que deram contribuição decisiva a este trabalho e, por sua vez, para a História Agrária.

This study aimed to analyze the correlations between political power and economic constitution of land assets to understand the manner in which this conjuncture was reflected in the increase in agrarian conflicts, motivated, above all, by the appreciation of the land, result of the expansion of the cotton economy. Initially, we discussed how the creation of the county (comarcas) is directly related to the strengthening of judiciary power, and how the county of São João do Cariri, created in 1854, became the biggest in the region, both in territorial expansion, as well as in, primarily, how its influence reverberated in politics and, in turn, in landholding issues. After this, we approached how the accumulation of patrimonial goods was decisive in the edification of a distinguished role for those individuals who were, simultaneously, men who held control over justice, by being judges and attorneys, and political leaders; in other words, they at the same time decided the destiny of those who searched in the tribunals for a mediation of agrarian conflicts. This approach was only possible through contact with sources regarding the demarcation of land, property division, in addition to those involving property owning crimes, often committed by "cangaceiros," that gave decisive contributions to this work, and therefore to Agrarian History.
