Esta dissertação analisa o debate entre Francisco Prestes Maia e Luiz Ignácio Romeiro de Anhaia Mello a respeito de suas visões sobre urbanismo e suas possibilidades de aplicação. Para tanto, utilizaremos uma abordagem quantitativa, buscando abarcar suas perspectivas escritas em distintos tipos de publicação, tais como periódicos, livros e panfletos. Pretende-se compreender, em primeiro lugar, a construção das identidades biográficas e das linhas interpretativas de cada um dos engenheiros-arquitetos. Numa segunda etapa, tem-se por objetivo reconstruir o contexto socioeconômico e urbano em que viveram na cidade de São Paulo, palco principal dos acontecimentos. Por fim, utilizando das publicações de cada um, é feito o exame de suas respectivas ideias, propostas, modelos e convicções sobre urbanismo; propondo ao final o debate, ou seja, a discussão entre os entendimentos de ambos sobre a disciplina em si, com base no estudo direto de seus textos. This dissertation analyzes the debate between Francisco Prestes Maia and Luiz Ignacio Romeiro de Anhaia Mello about their views on urbanism and its possibilities of application. With that in mind, we will use a quantitative approach, seeking to encompass their written perspectives on different publishing types, such as periodicals, books and pamphlets. Firstly, we seek to understand the construction of the biographical identities and interpretative lines of each of the architect-engineers. In a second stage, the objective is to reconstruct the socioeconomic and urban context in which they lived in the city of São Paulo, the main stage of the events. Finally, using the publications of each of them, we examine their respective ideas, proposals, models and beliefs about urbanism; proposing at the end the debate, in other words, the discussion between their understanding of the discipline itself, based on the direct study of their texts.
