Abstract in English
This research aims to investigate the commercial and cultural aspirations that guided the creation of two book collections by Guaíra Ltd. Publishing House, from Curitiba, during the 1940s: the Estante Americana Collection, composed by novels written by Hispano-Americans and North-Americans writers; and the Caderno Azul Collection, consisting of pocket books that contained different literary genres, such as research, essays and fictional texts. Therefore, the intention is to provide a gathering of the repertoire of texts put in circulation with these two projects. However, to begin with, it will present an analysis about the editorial guidelines promoted by Oscar Joseph de Plácido e Silva, a jurist from the capital of Paraná, which led to the foundation of Guaíra Publishing House during the last months of 1939; and also about the functioning of the publishing house during more than twenty years of activity, in order to understand how the company was able to enter the Brazilian editorial market and the transformations to which the project was subjected throughout the years.
