O presente trabalho busca rastrear convergências e divergências na estruturação do pensamento econômico de viés nacionalista no século XIX, na periferia americana do ocidente. Com foco especial nos Estados Unidos da América em seu momento de catching-up econômico, e também no Brasil do fim do século XIX, busca-se rastrear a estruturação do pensamento econômico de viés heterodoxo, com base na transição maior do pensamento ocidental entre o Iluminismo e o Romantismo: com o nacionalismo romântico sendo a base filosófica e política de uma nova forma de se pensar a economia, em países que se estruturavam nas Américas. O trabalho começa com a análise de Alexander Hamilton, para então estudar o American System, herdeiro desta tradição hamiltoniana, estruturando um pensamento econômico divergente ao do liberalismo hegemônico de então. Fundamentamos a descrição de etapas nesse processo em autores como Daniel Raymond e Henry Carey. Finalmente, analisamos, por meio do escrutínio das ideias do brasileiro Amaro Cavalcanti, em especial de seu papelismo, ecos e possíveis influências da tradição hamiltoniana no Brasil. O objetivo sendo o de rastrear convergências, similaridades, sintonias, e divergências, buscando o presente trabalho responder por que, e como, tais divergências e convergências ocorreram. O método escolhido, além do estudo da bibliografia especializada, foi o de análise crítica direta dos textos originais dos autores selecionados.

This work intends to track convergences and divergences in the structuring of economic thought of nationalist bias in the XIX century in the American Western periphery, especially focusing on the United States in its moment of economic catching up. But also in the 1800's Brazil tracking the structuring of heterodox economic thought on the basis of the major transition in Western thought, between Enlightenment and Romanticism, with Romantic Nationalism being the philosophical and political basis for a new way of economic thought in the newly structured countries in the Americas. The work starts with an analysis of Alexander Hamilton, so to taking on the American System, heir to Hamiltonian tradition, structuring its thought in a divergent way to the hegemonic liberalism, studying the steps in the process through authors such as Daniel Raymond and Henry Carey. So to in a final moment assay via the Brazilian Amaro Cavalcanti and his greenbackism (papelismo), echoes and possible influences of the Hamiltonian tradition in Brazil, the objective of which is reviewing convergences, similarities, synchronies and divergences; the present work trying to answer why and how such divergences and convergences occurred. The method chosen being that of literature review and the direct analysis of selected documents.
