Abstract in English
This thesis aimed to study the well-known theme of black slavery in the light of the NIE - New Institutional Economics - important theoretical reference for understanding the processes of economic, social and political change. The period was the end of captivity and the main source, O Guaripocaba, a small newspaper from Bragança Paulista, also a small city in São Paulo. Both the Local Press in Brazil and the NIE have been little explored by historiography and as slavery is an institution, the cited theoretical reference is important to understand its extinction.
