Keywords in Portuguese
Circulação de ideias
Economia Espacial
Geografia
Regionalização

The uses of growth pole theory in Brazilian regional planning

Abstract in English
This research delved deeper into the history of the transnational circulation of growth pole theory, its incursion into Latin America and its use in the regional planning of these countries. With this, we demonstrate the theoretical-methodological and conceptual imbroglio that brought economists and geographers closer to the theory and practice of state planning in underdeveloped countries during the second half of the 20th century. Our main interest was in Brazil, where we highlight the institutions and characters that welcomed and disseminated the assumptions of regional development as a strategy to achieve the economic and social development of the country, in a context of structural transformations of Brazilian society and territory. Since then, a new regionalization of the national territory has been promoted, supported by the notions of homogeneity and spatial polarization. Finally, it was intended to make a contribution to build the history of planning the Brazilian territory, from the contributions of geographic science.
