Esta pesquisa tem como objeto de investigação as relações envolvidas na transformação da centralidade da cidade de Marabá, no Estado do Pará, face ao desenvolvimento da siderurgia. No intuito de promover o desenvolvimento regional pela indústria, o Estado, em seus três níveis federativos, promove políticas de atração de investimentos para consolidar esse objetivo e isso tem implicações no processo de produção do espaço urbano e regional, que se dá sob hegemonia dos interesses do Estado e do capital. Com isso, evidenciamos a liderança de um Estado forte e orientado pela ordem capitalista de razão neoliberal. O período analisado na pesquisa foi de 2003 a 2019 (dezessete anos). Esse período foi o de maior crescimento da siderurgia em Marabá em sua etapa de produção de ferro gusa, porém com projetos públicos e privados que adotaram a verticalização da siderurgia como estratégia de desenvolvimento regional. A pesquisa é de natureza qualitativa com base nos seguintes procedimentos de investigação: levantamento e análise bibliográfica, levantamento e análise documental, realização de entrevistas gravadas com questões semiestruturadas, trabalho de campo e análise de conteúdo dos extratos sistematizados. Consoante a interpretação da produção social do espaço, verificamos a produção de uma centralidade urbano regional com privilégio para a dimensão econômica, considerando a importância assumida pela siderurgia na cidade de Marabá. Esse processo tende à reprodução ampliada do capital, mas não prescinde dos mecanismos de acumulação de capital por espoliação e se reproduz na relação cidade e região tendo como fundamento essas relações de produção. Dessa forma, ratificamos a tese de que para compreender a transformação da centralidade da cidade de Marabá é necessário levar em consideração as contraditórias e conflituosas relações entre o capital industrial e o Estado na promoção de políticas de desenvolvimento regional no contexto de preponderância do capitalismo monopolista de razão neoliberal.

This research has as its object of investigation the relationships involved in the transformation of the centrality of the city of Marabá, in the State of Pará, in the face of the development of the steel industry. In order to promote regional development through industry, the State, in its three federative levels, promotes investment attraction policies to consolidate this objective and this has implications for the production process of urban and regional space, which occurs under the hegemony of interests of the State and of the capital. With that, we evidence the leadership of a strong State and guided by the capitalist order of neoliberal reason. The period analyzed in the research was from 2003 to 2019 (seventeen years). This period was the period of greatest growth for the steel industry in Marabá in its pig iron production stage, but with public and private projects that adopted the verticalization of the steel industry as a regional development strategy. The research is qualitative in nature based on the following investigation procedures: bibliographic survey and analysis, document survey and analysis, recorded interviews with semi-structured questions, field work and content analysis of systematized extracts. Depending on the interpretation of the social production of space, we verified the production of a regional urban centrality with privilege for the economic dimension, considering the importance assumed by the steel industry in the city of Marabá. This process tends to the expanded reproduction of capital, but it does not dispense with the mechanisms of capital accumulation through dispossession and is reproduced in the city and region relationship based on these production relationships. In this way, we confirm the thesis that to understand the transformation of the centrality of the city of Marabá it is necessary to take into account the contradictory and conflicting relations between industrial capital and the State in the promotion of regional development policies in the context of the preponderance of monopoly capitalism in neoliberal reason.
