Abstract in English
The present study deals with the mapping of macumbas and candomblé, in the context of the first half of the 20th century, in the municipality of São Paulo. In this research, the meaning and social sense of these religious traditions in São Paulo society are highlighted, as well as the understandings and interpretations, in a broad sense, of the genesis and formation of macumba in São Paulo and what is now understood by the denomination candomblé. In this sense, this essay demonstrates the social and geographic relations of these Afro-Brazilian religions, based on persecution and silencing in favor of the political and social conjuncture of the time, as well as revealing part of the social subjects inserted in these religiosities, which have, as a contribution activity, the geographic space. This results in the mapping at different times of that period.
