Abstract in English
This research deals with the batucadas de beira de campo, a form of expression of the samba from São Paulo, historically engaged with the sociability that involves the foodplain soccer (várzea). Registered as an intangible heritage by Resolution nº. 29/13 (CONPRESP), the samba of São Paulo (SP) possesses multiple forms and has undergone continuous transformations, making the contents of that Resolution problematic in a spatial sense, with a focus on batucadas, acquirement of space, and the conformity of places for foodplain soccer. Thus, the objective of the research was to analyze the rise, popularity, and spread of várzea fields, as well as to understand the historical link between soccer and samba in the capital of São Paulo, from the "initial várzeas," to the periphery of the metropolis. Together with this main objective, the research was intended to elucidate the diversity of brazilian samba, interpret the practices and meanings that are developed in contemporary várzeas, with emphasis on the musical composition of batucadas, and analyze the norms for the protection of samba as a heritage. The set of knowledge, actions, and memories linked to the batucadas de beira de campo, as well as the elements of the game, the sounds and ways of cheering at the várzea, led to the thesis that foodplain soccer places are cultural references for thousands of people in São Paulo (SP). They are forms of meaning for children, young people, and elderly people, predominantly on the periphery. The várzeas are fields bequeathed by the collective work and possibilities for the social use of space, where cultural references take place, with batucadas de beira de campo an expression of this encounter.
