O presente trabalho discute a desindustrialização na área sudeste da cidade de São Paulo. A área em questão situa-se ao longo da antiga ferrovia Santos-Jundiaí e do rio Tamanduateí abrangendo parte dos antigos bairros operários do Brás, Mooca, Vila Prudente e Ipiranga. Além de uma breve discussão conceitual sobre desindustrialização, é apresentado um trabalho de campo na área citada tendo como foco de análise a Avenida Presidente Wilson e ao final, uma discussão sobre o uso de antigos edifícios industriais e o abandono dos mesmos. Porém, antes de se chegar aos propósitos, anteriormente citados, é feito um recuo histórico que busca trazer à discussão o processo de ocupação industrial na área de estudo. Para isto é trazida, junto à análise do tema, a várzea do Tamanduateí como elemento natural e como espaço para os mais diferentes usos de parte da população paulistana no início do século XX. Além disso, a fim de contextualizar este espaço, faz-se um estudo da vida nos antigos bairros operários ao longo do Tamanduateí a partir de relatos de antigos moradores

The present work argues the disindustrialization in the southeastern area of the city of São Paulo. The area in question is located along the old Santos-Jundiaí railroad and the river Tamanduateí enclosing part of the old laboring quarters of the Brás, Mooca, Vila Prudente and Ipiranga. Beyond one soon conceptual argue on the disindustrialization , it is presented a work in the field, in the mentioned area, having as focus of anlysis the avenue Presidente Wilson and to the end, an argue on the use of old industrial buildings and the abandonment of the same ones. For that is brought, together to the analysis of the subject, the flood plains of the river Tamanduateí as natural area and space for the most different uses of part of the city population in the beginning of century XX. Moreover, in order to look it in a wider spacial context, a survey of the life in the old laboring quarters along of the Tamanduateí from accounts of old inhabitants
