Abstract in English
The present research is about the diffusion of the agency network of Bradesco Bank S/A in the national territory. The historical record covers since the moment of its foundation in Marília (SP), in 1943, to its entrance in the World Net Internet in 1995. lts shows the "geographical history" of Bradesco Bank S/A which, from a small bank of regional performance, financier and intermediator of the businesses generated from the coffee activity to the small peasants from the countryside of the States of São Paulo and Paraná in the 1940s/1950s, became, in the beginning of the 1970s, the largest private retail bank and it has built the largest network of bank agencies in Brazil, with a great deal of products and services. This dissertation shows that Bradesco, throughout the last 50 years, has changed from a bank of regional performance to a national performance through strategies and practices, be it of the bank itself as well as the Brazilian State. These strategies and practices permeated, in a significant way, the economical and financial development of Brazil. This transformation from a regional bank to a national one passed by combinations and re-combinations of the political power (State), capital power (Bank) and territory (network), composing structures and socio-spatial relations utterly complex, which configure the national territory of Bradesco
