Unidade de conservação

Abstract in English
The planning and management of a Conservation Unit is a big challenge, since it should aggregate different and conflicting purposes. Therefore, the planning of these areas requires studies of several aspects of the landscape, including the physical environment. With that in mind, this work presents a comparative study of three proposals for diagnoses of the physical environment with the goal of subsidizing environmental planning based on different logics in order to verify if there is any adequate proposal for the demands of a Conservation Unit. These methodologies were reproduced in the Juquery State Park after an integrated study of the landscape, which addressed geological, geomorphological, pedological, climatic and vegetative aspects. According to the Land-capability classification, the area does not present a great capacity of land use, because of its limitations related mainly to soil (effective depth, hydromorphism and binary texture) and slope; and the lands suitable for more intensive use require complex conservation practices. Environmental Fragility has identified the predominance of medium and strong fragility over morphodynamic processes. The river plains are the most fragile areas, as well as the central portion of PEJy which has the steepest slope. The land situated to the north of the UC is the least fragile areas, as it has gentle slope and more developed soils. From Ecodynamics point of view, it was found that approximately 15% of PEJy is in a situation of instability. The vegetation cover plays a fundamental role in erosion control, protecting the soils. The Biodiversity Sustaining Capacity proposal identified 7 units in the PEJy. The classes with the greatest potential to support biota are characterized by effective depth and water availability in the system. The low depth, susceptibility to morphodynamic processes and steep slope were shown as limiting factors. The comparison between the methodologies showed that none of them is sufficient in itself for the planning of Conservation Units, but they bring important tools and concepts to be adapted and applied, such as the capacity of maximum use, the distinction of the units by the current ecodynamics, and the recognition of the landscape in a functional way.
