Abstract in English
Malunguinho is the name of the leader of Quilombo do Catucá formed in the first half of the 19th century in the forest zone located in the current State of Pernambuco. In 2006, some actors from Pernambuco created a study group with the objective of researching the narratives about this leader and constructing strategies that would allow Malunguinho to become visible and then plead with the State for his legal recognition. Starting from complementary processes, these actors managed the historical narratives, created social media and produced a digital archive based on documents and, mainly, images - graphic, photographic and audiovisual - in order to give authenticity to such narratives, transforming Malunguinho into a sort of regional icon. At the same time, they dialogued with public agents so that this icon would be recognized as a heritage. In this way, I took into consideration the problem of recognition as the focus of research, proposing to analyze the criteria of agency and production of material sources put into action in these processes. Taking as a reference the case study of a historical character - Malunguinho -, I investigated the strategies of documentary authentication and, above all, aesthetics of that character in whose name the actors involved claimed certain rights.
