Com base em extensa pesquisa com os Xikrin do Bacajá (Pará), esta tese discute os regimes de abertura para o Outro dos Mebengokré. Parte-se de uma análise de narrativas que tematizam a passagem de Mesmo a Outro ou seu inverso, para elucidar as relações de diferença que criam Mesmos e Outros, e essas posições relacionais. Como possibilidades lógicas essas passagens não constituem problema: este se configura na indefinição da posição que se ocupa a cada momento. Busca-se então elaborar as condições dos processos de identificação e diferenciação. Discutem-se as modalidades de preensão e o que se preende, e demonstra-se que com isso se realiza a construção de Mebengokré em pessoas, relações e coletivos. Demonstra-se assim que aquilo que permite esta construção é constantemente produzido e enriquecido a partir de um sistema constituído por relações pautadas por troca, guerra, xamanismo e caça, ou pela invenção e inovação, que mantêm não só a existência, mas principalmente a potência criativa de nomes e adornos, cultivares e carne, cantos e rituais com que se criam novas pessoas mebengokré. Parte-se então para uma discussão de como essas relações se dão, especialmente as relações guerreiras e de troca. Relatos de expedições guerreiras ilustram a produtividade da guerra, mas sua ausência é então tematizada, já que a situação contemporânea em que vivem os Xikrin é a da "pacificação", do estabelecimento de relações pacíficas com o Estado que se estendem a todos e leva à abolição da guerra em seu sistema de relações e preensão. Abordando então o processo de pacificação e as relações contemporâneas por ele estabelecidas, argumenta-se que o problema não está na ausência da guerra, que em certo nível pode ser substituída pelas demais modalidades de preensão, mas na interrupção da alternância entre guerra e aliança, entre inimizade e amizade, que garanta ao ) mesmo tempo a produtividade dessas relações de diferença e a manutenção da diferença. Conclui-se que o desafio atualmente enfrentado pelos Xikrin consiste em evitar a indiferenciação e a diluição da diferença, e portanto a impossibilidade de criar novos mebengroké, ou, como apontam as narrativas, a possibilidade de criar apenas versões enfraquecidas de Mebengokré. Tendo-se indicado o valor da guerra, as modalidades de preensão contemporâneas e as respostas a esse dilema atual são assinaladas e examinadas

Supported by extensive research among the Bacajá Xikrin (Pará, North of Brazil), this study discusses the regimes of Mebengokré openness to the Other. Analyzing narratives in which the passage from Sameness to Otherness (and its reverse) is an important theme, it throws light on relations of difference from which sameness, otherness and those relational positions arise. Since this passage, being a logical possibility, is not the problem, it is shown that the problem lies on the indefiniteness of the position occupied at each given moment. Conditions and processes of identification and differentiation are focused, and modalities of assimilation of things that actualize the construction of Mebengokré as persons, relations and collectives are analyzed. It is demonstrated that those things are constantly produced and enriched by relations of war, exchange, xamanism and hunting, or by invention and innovation, which ensure not only the existence but also and mostly the creative power of names and ornaments, songs and rituals through which new Mebengokré persons are created. How those relations happen, especially those of war and exchange, is examined. Narratives about war expeditions illustrate the productivity of war, and its absence is then discussed, given that Xikrin live nowadays on a "pacification" era, in which the establishment of pacific relations with the Brazilian State is followed with pacific relations with all and everyone, and war is suppressed from the system of relations and assimilation. Discussing this process and contemporary modes of relations, it is argued that the problem does not lie in the absence of war, which is in most aspects replaced by other modes of relations, but in the interruption of the interchanging of war and alliance, of enmity and pacific relations, which ensure the productivity of those relations of difference and, at the same time, difference itself. It can be then concluded that Xikrin face nowadays the challenge of avoiding indifferentiation and the dilution of difference, and therefore the incapacity of creating new Mebengokré - or, as the narratives point out, the risk of being only capable of creating weak and weaken versions of Mebengokré. Having thus been indicated the value of war, contemporary relations of assimilation and Xikrin answers to their dilemma are described and examined
