Abstract in English
This dissertation concerns the ways in which the Guarani Mbya understand and make use of their oneiric experience. It is based on the finding that sharing dreams is a relevant aspect of daily life in the villages and that these have an influence on important decisions taken by Guarani people. A reflection on how dreams are understood among the Mbya is undertaken initially, proposing that these are seen as real experiences lived by subjects during the night when their bodies are asleep. An analysis is then carried out on the dif ferent forms of oneiric encounters, which are, on the one hand, true sources of knowledge and power, and, on the other, sources of risks such as falling ill, being transformed into animals (-jepota) and of dying. A reflection on the relation between dreams, myths and guarani territoriality is then undertaken and seeks to show how the oneiric experience is intertwined with the Mbya`s current struggle for the acknowledgement of their rights to traditional territories. An analysis of how dreams are shared during waking hours is then carried out, describing the set ting where they are usually told and reflecting on some of the logic intrinsic to the processes of their interpretation. The special position occupied by nhaneramo? and nhandejaryi (elderly men and women) in this process is also addressed. It entails their presence when dreams are narrated as well as the choice of pragmatic actions that should be undertaken in response to them. Finally, a brief critical reflection is undertaken on how Guarani understand the way in which jurua (non indigenous people) dream and make use of their dreams.
