Title in Portuguese
Música e verdade: a estética negativa de Theodor Adorno
Keywords in Portuguese
Filosofia contemporânea

Abstract in English
This thesis aims to demonstrate that the understanding and criticism of some fundamental themes of Theodor Adorno's aesthetics (such as the issues of mediation and reception and of the concepts of artistic material and truth content of works of art) are only possible and relevant when they refer not to their artistic and philosophical "influences", but to the context of the various musical and literary debates in which Adorno took part, ranging from the discussion around Expressionism to the ageing of Modern Art controversy in the decades of 1950 and 1960, and focussing chiefly on a reflection on the antinomies of "Neue Musik" since 1920. Thus, Adorno's aesthetics is seen through the interpretation of his critiques on modern music and literature. This configures an approach that is opposed to readings that aim at the consolidation of a system or a method based on the commentary on the Aesthetic Theory's theses
