Keywords in Portuguese
Desejo
dinâmica afetiva
Espinosa
política
vida comum

Desire and politics in Spinoza, a study of Ethics

Spinoza
Abstract in English
This work proposes to articulate, through Spinoza's notion of desire, two dimensions of the common life experience: politics and affectivity. Through Spinoza's lens, we consider that ordinary society or political life not only has an affective origin, but it is only sustained and metamorphosed through a complex game and web of affections that is intrinsic to it and that permeates it at its various levels, instances and moments, which means that dealing with politics is dealing with a movement of affections. Therefore, a reflection on politics that disregards this aspect is weak and even utopian and unrealistic. In this horizon, our objective is to consider the role and centrality of an affection, desire, defined by Spinoza as the very essence of the human being. For this, although we have the contribution of the author's two political treaties (the TP and TTP), we will use Ethics to a great extent, unraveling the plot of this work, we will try to clarify the role and place of desire in the development of inter-human relations and consequently for the institution of common life.
