This thesis deals on issues relating to the Arts, specially to Architecture and Urbanism, ranging in time from the Enlightenment to the Avant-garde movements in the beginning of this century. It dwells on the forming of Cities and their transformation into Metropolises; the establishment of a Metropolitan literature; the imagery of a New World, built upon Reason, and its teleology; the artistic Avant-garde movements, emphasizing constructive Avant-garde; architectural theories in the Enlightenment and their relation to the Modern Movement; and the recurrence of edenic visions of a New World
