The nihilism becomes a quite important question in Nietzsche's latest work when the investigation on pessimism is restarted and at the same time that it is well-connected with the main themes of this period, that is to say, the eternal recurrence, the will to power and the revaluation of the values. In our thesis, we inquire into the manner through which the German philosopher relates the radicalization of nihilism, negation and annihilation to a much more affirmative and radical way of thinking about the world and life itself. We aim at showing, in this way, that within his philosophy there is a thought concerning the extremes, that is to say, a type of thought that moves itself between the extreme negation of life and the extreme affirmation of life and world. Bearing this perspective, we take the tragic artist, the free spirit and the overman as three significant types of men, built throughout his work in order to radicalize and overpass the nihilism. We aim at showing, firstly, that the problem of nihilism, far from being just a result of some studies and worries of Nietzsche's latest ideas, is already prefigured on previous writings: on the investigation about the old and modern pessimism, on the free spirit philosophy and on the 'announce' of the death of God. Starting from this point, we investigate how Nietzsche develops his extremes thoughts: the confrontation with the nihilism, with the negation itself and with the pessimism is the condition for the establishment of a new sense of creation and annihilation. Secondly, we discuss the way through which creation and annihilation are related in Nietzsche's philosophy, the history of nihilism and the eternal recurrence, the ascendant and the decadent will to power, the devaluation and revaluation of values, the superior type and the last man. We also discuss the philosopher's presupposition that the radicalization of nihilism means, in an extreme way, his self-overcoming and the transition to the supreme affirmation. We aim at evaluating, therefore, in what sense Nietzsche provides a synthesis of the opposites and if exists, within his philosophy, a last 'solution' for the ambiguities and the problems well-connected with nihilism
