O presente trabalho possui por objetivo responder à pergunta contida no título: o que é filosofia primeira, segundo o Livro da Metafísica de Aristóteles? No primeiro capítulo tentaremos situar a investigação do Livro dentro da Metafísica, considerando se esta investigação é a continuidade de uma investigação precedente ou o início de uma nova investigação. Apresentaremos indícios para considerar que a investigação de é a continuidade de uma investigação precedente. Qual investigação precedente? Responderemos que é a continuidade de uma investigação de filosofia primeira, a qual visa a consolidar ou estabelecer a filosofia primeira como ciência. A partir desta primeira resposta, levantaremos nossa hipótese de leitura para o Livro , afirmando que a investigação de visa a consolidar ou estabelecer a filosofia primeira através da investigação do princípio comum à substância sensível e imóvel. No capítulo II apresentaremos suporte à nossa hipótese de leitura, mostrando que a investigação de demonstra a existência de um princípio comum à substância sensível e imóvel. Primeiro ofereceremos uma interpretação da estrutura do início de 1 (as duas linhas iniciais e as justificativas da investigação de ). Depois faremos uma análise da primeira justificativa da investigação de , mostrando que através desta justificativa o texto já evidencia que uma das preocupações da investigação diz respeito a como compreender o todo: deveríamos compreendê-lo como um certo inteiro ou como uma série? Acreditamos que, ao final de toda a investigação de , é demonstrado que o todo é um certo inteiro, pois há um único princípio que governa o todo. No terceiro e último capítulo defenderemos uma leitura hipotética das linhas finais de 1. Quer dizer, mostraremos que estas linhas devem ser compreendidas de modo a estabelecer uma condição: se não houver um princípio comum às substâncias. Em seguida, preparando a resposta à pergunta a qual no propusemos no início do trabalho, diremos porque a instigação de 2-5 é uma investigação de filosofia primeira, e não uma investigação pertencente à física. Pois, apesar de 2-5 investigar os mesmos princípios e causas investigados pela física: matéria, forma, privação e os moventes (incluindo o movente imóvel), a investigação de visa a conhecer um objeto diferente do objeto da física. Acreditamos que a investigação de é uma investigação de filosofia primeira, na medida em que ela visa a conhecer todas as coisas, isto é, o todo, referido já na primeira justificativa da investigação. E será possível que uma mesma ciência conheça todas as coisas, pois há um princípio comum à substância sensível e imóvel. Deste modo, a investigação das coisas sensíveis é parte essencial da concepção de filosofia primeira em , é ela que demonstra a necessidade da existência de coisas não-sensíveis, e a ligação entre as coisas sensíveis e não sensíveis. Pois a substância imóvel é uma das causas das substâncias sensíveis. Deste modo, poderá ser estabelecida em uma ciência a respeito de todas as coisas, do todo. Além destes três capítulos ofereceremos também uma tradução anotada de 1, realizando um estudo mais detalhado de alguns termos, expressões e conceitos presentes no primeiro capítulo de A

The goal of the present work is to answer the question contained in its title: what is first philosophy according to book of Aristotles Metaphysics? In the first chapter I will try to contextualize book in the whole of the Metaphysics, considering if this investigation is the continuity of a preceding investigation or the beginning of a new one. I will show evidence that s investigation is the continuation of a preceding investigation. Which preceding investigation? I will answer that is the continuity of an investigation of first philosophy, which aims to consolidate or establish first philosophy as a science. This first answer gives rise to my reading hypothesis for book , that s investigation aims to consolidate or establish first philosophy through the investigation of a common principle between sensible and unmovable substance. In chapter II I will present support for this reading hypothesis, showing that s investigation demonstrates the existence of a principle shared by sensible and unmovable substance. First I will offer an interpretation of the beginning of 1 (the first two lines and the justifications of s investigation). After this, I will consider the first justification of s investigation, showing that the text indicates that one of the goals of the investigation concerns the way we should understand the totality of things: should we understand this as something whole or as a succession? I believe that, at the end of the whole investigation, it is demonstrated that the totality of things is something whole, for there is a single principle that governs the totality of things. At the third and last chapter I will support a hypothetical reading of 1s final lines. That is, I will show that these lines should be understood as establishing a condition: if there is no principle common to both substances. Then, preparing the answer for the question of my work, I will say why 2-5s investigation is an investigation into first philosophy and not an investigation belonging to physics. For, despite the fact that 2- 5 investigates the same principles and causes investigated by physics: matter, form, privation and the movers (including the unmoved mover), s investigation aims to know an object different from the object of physics. I believe that s investigation is an investigation of first philosophy because it aims to know all things, that is, the totality of things, which was already referred in the first justification of the investigation. And it will be possible for a unique science to know all things because there is a common principle between sensible and unmovable substance. Thus, the investigation of sensible things is an essential part of the conception of first philosophy present in , and it demonstrates the necessity of the existence of non-sensible things. For the unmoved substance is one of the causes of sensible substances. This way, it will be possible to establish in a science concerning all things, the totality of things. In addition to these three chapters I will offer also an annotated translation of 1, providing a more more detailed discussion of some terms, expressions and concepts contained in the first chapter of A
