O propósito do presente trabalho é demonstrar as implicações do estilo de Montesquieu em seu projeto político. A hipótese é a de que Montesquieu construiu seu estilo, nos moldes das formas breves difundidas no século em que nasceu, pelos moralistes, certo de sua adequação à concepção ou interpretação que empreendeu da vida pública. Pretende, primeiramente, definir esse estilo, ao procurá-lo nas leituras do século XVII de Montesquieu, inserindo nosso autor numa série literária,mostrando suas escolhas, antes de tudo, de leituras. A seguir, acertadas as contas com a escritura da obra, procurar entender o projeto político de Montesquieu, perquirindo sua escolha de leitores. O trabalho comporta uma crítica dos lugares-comuns que a tradição sedimentou em torno do autor e de sua obra, refazendo os vínculos de Montesquieu com escritores que, até aqui, têm sido vistos como combatidos por ele. Também a simplificação da interpretação (?) de sua obra política, restringindo-se a mera explicitação de mecanismos de realização e contenção do poder ou áugure da teoria constitucional, foi refutada, para restabelecer seu estatuto perante - e seu diálogo com - seu tempo. Para tanto, refez-se a ligação entre os termos literário e político de seu escritos, evitando a separação - imposta pela mesma tradição - entre o literato e o teórico, entre textos pretensamente sérios e de diversão. Em vista de tais objetivos, o trabalho foi dividido em capítulos, que explicitam temas por onde se explora a reflexão de nosso autor, tais a jurisprudência, a história e as viagens, bem como procuram descrever as leituras, o estilo e o projeto político, esclarecendo suas ligações. Ao conjunto det ais capítulos nomeou-se ensaio, seja porque tal forma pareceu mais adequada ao material legado por Montesquieu, seja porque não parece possível - e nem seria justificável a pretensão de - encerrar em uma tese as conclusões sobre uma obra que continua a ) desafiar nosso próprio arsenal de expectativas e questionar nosso horizonte de desejos Montesquieu, Charles Louis Secondat, Baron de la Brede et ...

The design of this work is to demonstrate the implications of Montesquieu's style in his political plan. The hypothesis is that Montesquieu has built his style, in the way of the formes brèves diffused, in the century he was born, by the moralistes, convinced of its adequacy to the conception or interpretation that he had attempted at the public life. It intends, primary, to define Monstesquieu's style, by looking for it in his readings of the XVIIth century, inserting our author in a literary chain, demonstrating his choices, above all, of readings. Afterwards, settled accounts with the writing of the opus, trying to understand Montesquieu's bonds with the writers that, up till here, have been seeing as contested by him. Also the simplification of the interpretation of his political work, restringing it to a mere explanation of realization and contention mechanisms of power or augur of constitucional theory, has been refuted, to establish again its statute at - and his dialogue with - his time. Therefore, the biding between the literary and political terms of his writings has been restored, avoiding the division, impost for the same tradition, between the literate and theoretical, between pretentiously reliable texts and the entertainment. Considering of these purposes, the work has been divided into chapters, that express themes in a way which explore the reflection of our author, such as the jurisprudence, the history and the travels, as well as trying to describe the readings, the style and the political plan, explaining its relations. To the set these chapters entitled essay, be it because such structure has seemed suitable to the material Montesquieu has left, be it because it has not seem possible - and it would have not being justifiable the intention of - to enclose in one Thesis the conclusion about a work that continues challenging our own arsenal of expectations and putting in question our horizon of desires
