Abstract in English
This research has as general objective to offer a genetic analysis of Russell's theory of descriptions. The present study is based on texts by Russell that are ignored or very little explored by important researchers who analyse the origin of the theory of descriptions. The perspective presented is this thesis is that the theory of descriptions of "On Denoting", from 1905, is the result of a long process of historical and philosophical development of Russell's thought. This development began with an attempt to build an idealist philosophy, but Russell did not publish all of his texts from this period between the years 1894 and 1902 and important information was lost. The failure of this project made Russell break away from Idealism in favor of Logical Realism in 1899. The new philosophy that came to be built was born from a reformulation of some conceptions of logic, metaphysics, epistemology and semantics presupposed in the theory of analysis of propositions of The Principles of Mathematics, from 1903. The reasons for this transition are identified in some intermediate texts, since Russell also did not publish these articles between the years 1903 and 1905. Thus, the ultimate horizon of this research is to argue that the basis of the theory of "On Denoting" depends on the historical analysis and the philosophical articulation between the principle of acquaintance and the notion of incomplete symbol, besides justifying that these two conceptions already appear in texts prior to "On Denoting". Therefore, the point of view suggested by this research is that Russell's philosophical development allowed him to eliminate the notion of indirect aboutness and recover the direct realism of The Principles of Mathematics, but mainly that this twist is already present in the article "On Fundamentals", written before "On Denoting".
