A presente tese é um estudo a respeito das relações entre a faculdade intelectual e a alma humana, segundo a estrutura apresentada no Livro da alma de Ibn Sīnā. No Capítulo I define-se o sujeito da ciência da alma. Esta é afirmada como uma substância que engendra a matéria tomada por receptáculo, transformando-a num organismo. Alude-se ao modo como se dá o início do ser da alma e como é possível, por meio de suas múltiplas ações, identificar e enumerar as faculdades que possui em cada grau. Apresenta-se a clássica divisão aristotélica em três níveis, isto é, vegetal, animal, humana e suas respectivas faculdades. No Capítulo II, estuda-se a divisão da faculdade racional. O intelecto, tomado em seu aspecto teórico e prático é analisado segundo os seus graus: intelecto material, em hábito, em ato, adquirido e sagrado. Focaliza-se, no processo de abstração, a conexão do intelecto humano com a inteligência agente, ícone da teoria do conhecimento de Ibn Sīnā. Analisa-se o estatuto das formas inteligíveis presentes na inteligência agente e o modo como são apreendidas pelo intelecto humano. A metáfora do Sol, utilizada como exemplo da iluminação inteligível é apresentada por meio do estudo e da tradução do capítulo V, 5 do Livro da Alma. Estabelecido o solo epistemológico sobre o qual assentam-se as premissas da ciência da alma e do estatuto do intelecto, o Capítulo III se ocupa em verificar as consequências que disso resultam. Primeiramente, apresenta-se um itinerário dos modos de apreensão e de abstração do sensível ao inteligível, mostrando como a alma, em sua operação mais essencial, é o próprio conhecimento pelo intelecto. Definido, o intelecto, como uma faculdade imaterial que opera sem órgãos corporais, verifica-se, ao final, as implicações disso no caso de uma possível permanência individual da alma humana.

The current dissertation is a study conceming the relations between intellectual faculty and human soul, according to the structure presented in the Book of the soul by Ibn Sīnā. In Chapter I, the subject of the Science of the soul will be defíned. The soul, which is affirmed to be a substance, engenders the matter, taken as a receptacle, transforms it in an organism. Then, we will expose how does the beginning of the soul take place and how is it possible, through multiple its actions, to identify and to enumerate the faculties it has in each degree. We also will present the classical Aristotelian division in three degrees, i. e., vegetal, animal, and human; as well as its respective faculties. In Chapter II, we study the division of the rational faculty. The intellect, taken in his theoretical and practical aspects, is analyzed according to its grades: material, in habit, in act, acquired and holy. In the process of the abstraction, we focus on the connection between human intellect and active intelligence, icon of the Ibn Sīnā's theory of the knowledge. We analyze the status of the intelligible forms, which are in the active intelligence, and the way human intellect conceives them. The metaphor of the Sun, used as an example of the intelligible illumination, is presented through the study and translation of Chapter V, 5 of the Book of the soul. After consolidating epistemological bases upon which the premises of the Science of the soul and the intellect status are placed, Chapter III deals with the consequences of that. Firstly, we dispose the itinerary of the apprehension and abstraction from the sensible to the intelligible, showing in which way the soul, in its essential operation, is the knowledge by the intellect. The intellect is defíned as an immaterial faculty, which operates without bodily organs.Finally, this chapter presents an analysis of the implications in the case of the possibility of the individual human soul permanence.
