Abstract in English
This dissertation deals with the universe of the citizenship and the rights, reflecting on the issue through the interviews with unemployed people and street peddlers in São Paulo city. Our purpose was to reflect about the conception of the citizenship and the rights in Brazilian society by the unemployed people and street peddlers experiences with the absence of the right-to-work. The analysis of the interviews allows us to collect several important elements such as the centralization of the work in the interviewees' life, the conception of the rights as a reward, a merit due to the "right behavior" in the society and the association of the citizenship with the values of honesty and dignity. At last, we come to the conclusion that the conceptions of the citizenship and the rights only make sense to the interviewees when these are interpreted and conceptualized by their experience of unworthy life conditions within the private sphere
