Abstract in English
The present work discusses the rise and fall of the political and theoretical side of socialism known as reformism: a political strategy that aims to achieve progressive improvements for the working class from the capitalist order, keeping socialism as a ultimate goal, but refusing any form of violent and sudden disruption as well as prioritizing the accomplishment of the "small tasks" of the present moment, having as main action the dispute of the State through the elections and labor conquests for the representation of the unions. The first part defines the concept of reformism through the historical reconstruction of its emergence within the German Social Democratic Party from its foundation until 1933 and the analysis of two of its leading theorists, Eduard Bernstein and Rudolf Hilferding. In the second part, we analyze how, within the context of the UK Labor Party, between the 1970s and 1990s, due to the decline of democracy and worker's organizations caused by the rise of neoliberalism, the constitutive elements of reformism were eliminated giving rise to "post-reformism". To this end, we also analyze the writings on this subject by Tony Blair and Anthony Giddens. Finally, we compare these two moments.
