Esta dissertação investiga a trajetória social e intelectual de Graciliano Ramos com o objetivo de problematizar o processo de sua consagração literária. Nesse sentido, as diversas instâncias de legitimação do campo literário brasileiro da primeira metade do século XX são interrogadas do ponto de vista sociológico. A análise baseia-se na reconstrução das relações a um só tempo de disputa e cooperação entre escritores, editores e críticos pela arbitragem literária no período.

This study investigates the social and the intellectual trajectory of Graciliano Ramos in order to problematize his process of literary consecration. From a sociological perspective, it questions the various instances in which the legitimation process takes place in the Brazilian literary field during the first half of the twentieth century. The analysis reconstructs the relations among writers, editors and critics while they mutually cooperated and disputed for the literary arbitration in the period.
