Abstract in English
The thesis reconstructs the elements of a theory of social and subjective change in ErichFromm's mature works (from 1937 till 1980). Taking its anthropological andsociological assumptions as point of departure, the text extracts the fragments ofontology and logic, usually implicit in Fromm's writing. After that, the aspectsextracted in these two domains are referred back to his ethics, the nucleus of histheory's normative structure. The attempt is made to study the mutual conditioning inwhich these elements enter, when it comes to solving the problem of change. In theontological domain, a conception of psychic determination is outlined, which issystemic in character, and peculiar to Fromm. It is marked by a series of determinativerelations which are contained in his mode of conceptualizing. In the logical domain, wearrive at a proposal for unity between affirmation and negation, as well as a series offigures of compromise between these two operations. The process of the argumentattempts as well to develop a critical balance of Fromm's conception of subjectivity, pointing to dualities and tensions which are left unresolved in his writing, anddeveloping their connection to the distinct experiential domains from which theyoriginate - especially in the political and religious life, and in the clinicalpsychoanalytic work. Taken together, these determinations result in some different waysof grounding Fromm's normative program. The differences between these alternativesare discussed, and the text opts for the way of interpreting and developing from theoeuvre which seems more coherent with its own premises. It concludes for a model inwhich social and subjective change are posed as mutually conditioned; in which theultimate valuing criterion is based on the concept of "life", and tries to put psychicdifferentiation and freedom as the center of its ethical orientation.
