Esta pesquisa procurou investigar uma das chaves de mudança que têm caracterizado a reestruturação do sistema de educação superior no Brasil a partir do início dos anos 2000. Tratase de examinar a emergência e institucionalização de um novo modelo acadêmico e organizacional para as instituições de educação superior no país, que propõe mudanças específicas na organização institucional, acadêmica e curricular da universidade, sintetizadas pela ideia de criação dos bacharelados interdisciplinares. Para tanto, esta pesquisa se baseia em um estudo de caso sobre a concepção da Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC), que é tomada como a primeira experiência de institucionalização desse modelo. Partindo de uma abordagem histórica e relacional, a pesquisa buscou examinar esse processo por meio de duas operações metodológicas. A primeira, dedicou-se à reconstrução histórica das disputas travadas na intersecção entre os campos político, acadêmico e universitário no país em torno da reforma universitária. A pesquisa aponta que esse modelo foi elaborado por determinadas frações dominantes do campo acadêmico e científico naquela conjuntura histórica. Sua institucionalização teve como condição as transformações nas relações de força entre agentes do campo político, acadêmico e universitário no interior do Estado, redefinidas a partir da mudança do grupo político na administração do governo federal em 2003. A segunda operação, debruçou-se sobre a construção do perfil social do grupo responsável pela elaboração do projeto pedagógico da UFABC por meio da prosopografia e da análise da trajetória familiar, profissional e acadêmica de cinco cientistas e engenheiros desse grupo. A partir do exame de suas trajetórias singulares, a pesquisa mostra como o percurso social e profissional desses agentes delimitou suas visões a respeito da interdisciplinaridade

This research sought to investigate one of the keys of change that have characterized the restructuring of the higher education system in Brazil since the early 2000s. It is to examine the emergence and institutionalization of a new academic and organizational model for higher education institutions in the country, which proposes specific changes in the institutional, academic and curricular organization of the university, synthesized by the idea of creating interdisciplinary baccalaureate degrees. Therefore, this research is based on a case study of the conception of the Federal University of ABC (UFABC), which is taken as the first experience of institutionalization of this model. Starting from a historical and relational approach, the research examines this process through two methodological operations. The first is dedicated to the historical reconstruction of the disputes fought at the intersection between the political, academic and university fields in the country around the university reform. The research points out that this model was elaborated by certain dominant fractions of the academic and scientific fields at that historical conjuncture. Its institutionalization process was conditioned by the transformations in the power relations between agents of the political, academic and university fields within the State, redefined after the change of the political group in the federal government administration in 2003. The second operation is focused on the construction of the social profile of the group responsible for the elaboration of UFABC's pedagogical project through the prosopography and the analysis of the family, professional and academic trajectories of five scientists and engineers from this group. From the examination of their unique trajectories, the research shows how the social and professional background of the agents delimited their views on interdisciplinarity.
