Abstract in English
Orthopedic conditions that require specialized surgical procedures for replacement of bone tissue are frequent in both veterinary and human medicine. Therefore, it is not uncommon for orthopedists to encounter long-bone fractures, bone neoplasms, or non-fracture joint, that need surgical repair treatment using bone graft or natural and / or synthetic implant. The aim of this study is to analyze the interfaces between composites composed of canine (MOMHTc) and bovine heterologous trabecular mineralized bone matrix (MOMHTb) associated with PMMA and the bone defects of rabbits, by radiographic study and scanning electron microscopy at different times. Twelve adult New Zealand rabbits were used to evaluate the behavior of composites based on MOMHTc and MOMHTb associated with PMMA, they were divided into four subgroups (E1, n=3; E2, n=3; E3, n=3 e E4, n=3), which had filled the right and left tibial bone failures with composites and evaluated at the immediate postoperative period at 30, 90, and 120 days. It was observed that MOMHT(c/b) and PMMA composites showed cytotoxic potential, which was higher in the bovine composite. Morphologically, it was also observed that the composites were preserved after autoclaving, this demonstrated that the sterilization process did not change the structures of the constituents of the composites. There was incorporation, in relation to time, of the MOMHT(c/b) and PMMA composites to the receiving beds in 100% of the cases, this demonstrated to be biologically biocompatible, as they promoted the repair of bone defects, with no signs of infection, migration or rejection, and may therefore be another option as a substitute to fill large bone defects.
