O objetivo do estudo é compreender como proprietários de empreendimentos rurais localizados no município de Pirassununga-SP, que administram suas propriedades sozinhos ou com apoio de membros da família, tem lidado com o processo sucessório, investigando os motivos de sua ocorrência, as facilidades e as dificuldades encontradas no processo. Como método, utilizou-se a pesquisa qualitativa descritiva de natureza básica. Como procedimento, adotou-se a pesquisa bibliográfica e coleta de dados por meio de entrevistas estruturadas com 16 famílias. Como resultado verificou-se que 62,5% dos sucedidos pesquisados iniciaram a fase sucessória, 75% possuem a compreensão do significado do termo sucessão, e que este processo deve iniciar previamente de forma a não gerar ônus futuro e ensejar na desvinculação da família da propriedade quando os sucessores possuem planos distintos dos seus sucedidos. A rentabilidade do negócio e a gama de opções nas quais os sucessores estão imersos podem inviabilizar a continuação da sucessão. Além disso, os entrevistados entendem que, realizar consultorias especializadas, associar-se a sindicatos e instituições correlatas podem ter reflexos distintos para o pleno desenvolvimento do processo sucessório, visto que, identificam como relevante a sua atuação para a disseminação do conhecimento e são desejosos para se engajar, caso atividades sejam proporcionadas por estas instituições.

The aim of the study is to understand how owners of rural enterprises located in the municipality of Pirassununga-SP, who manage their properties alone or with the support of family members, have dealt with the succession process, investigating the reasons for its occurrence, the facilities and the difficulties encountered in the process. As a method, descriptive qualitative research of a basic nature was used. As a procedure, bibliographical research and data collection were adopted through structured interviews with 16 families. As a result, it was found that 62.5% of the surveyed successors started the succession phase, 75% understand the meaning of the term succession, and that this process must start in advance so as not to generate future burdens and lead to the separation of the family from property when the successors have different plans from their successors. The profitability of the business and the range of options in which the successors are immersed can make the continuation of the succession unfeasible. In addition, the interviewees understood that carrying out specialized consultations, associating with the unions and related institutions can have distinctive effects on the full development of the successions process, since they identify their role as relevant to the dissemination of knowledge and are willing to engage, if activities are provided by these institutions.
