Abstract in English
Some food transport packages require high strength to safely withstand loading and fluctuations during transportation. The use of agribusiness by-products in the production of transport packaging can contribute to the development of technology that makes alternative materials available for more sustainable packaging. The purpose of this research was to study the use of sugarcane bagasse as a raw material for the manufacture of transport packages that require high mechanical performance, such as the PBR-I pallet, standard for supermarkets, whose parts that make up the pallets require wood with a minimum bending strength of 63 MPa. Therefore, it is necessary to promote an increase in the resistance of the final product, in order to enable its application for this purpose. Thus, this research analyzes the effect of the application of textile reinforcement in increasing the mechanical performance of sugarcane bagasse particleboard. Two types of textile reinforcements have been evaluated for pallet application: a natural jute fiber fabric and a synthetic fiberglass fabric. The panels were evaluated according to their physical and mechanical properties: modulus of rupture (MOR) and elasticity (MOE), Janka hardness, thickness swelling (IE), water absorption (AA) and screw pullout resistance. The characterization of the panels was based on NBR 14810-3. The panels were made from sugarcane bagasse with castor oil-based polyurethane resin under the pressure of 20 MPa at 110°C. Target density was 0.8 g / cm³ for all plates. The results showed that the agglomerate made of two layers of fiberglass fabric presented higher MOR value (61.8 MPa) and promoted a 36% increase in the material resistance in relation to the panel without any reinforcement. It is therefore concluded that this textile reinforcement is effective in increasing the strength of the sugarcane bagasse particleboard. The panels obtained with this reinforcement have sufficient strength to be applied to intermediate boards, which make up the majority of pallet components requiring strength of at least 34 MPa.
