Abstract in English
The objective was to determine the nutritional requirements of energy and protein for maintenance and weight gain in lambs of the genetic groups: White Dorper (WD), Texel (T), Ile-de-France (IF), Santa Ines (SI) and their crosses with SI as a maternal race: ½ WD + ½ SI, ½ T + ½ SI and ½ IF + ½ SI. 218 non-castrated males with an average age of 90 days were used, fed in an individual feedlot system for 42 days, to obtain different body compositions using the comparative slaughter technique. The animals were adapted to the diet, facilities and 21-day management, with free food. After that period, eight lambs from each genetic group were slaughtered to determine the initial body composition. The other animals were randomly divided into three levels of food intake: ad libitum, 75 g or 63 g of dry matter/kg of metabolic weight. Then, the sheep were slaughtered to obtain the final body composition to calculate the energy and protein requirements, metabolizable and liquid, for maintenance and weight gain. The values determined between the genetic groups evaluated for metabolizable energy of maintenance ranged from 76.83 to 87.91 kcal/kg of metabolic empty body weight (PCVz0.75) and for net maintenance energy from 59.46 to 68.47 kcal/kg PCVz0.75. For metabolizable maintenance protein (MPm) the values determined were between 3.17 to 3.82 g/kg PV0.75 and for liquid maintenance protein (NPm) between 2.10 to 2.65 g/kg PV0.75. The values determined for the nutritional requirement of energy and protein, both for maintenance and for weight gain, of the groups evaluated were different from the literature, highlighting that between the different groups there was no difference in the maintenance requirements.
