Abstract in English
Aiming to evaluate the efficacy of an anticoccidial agent, Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast cell wall, essential oil (mixture of carvacrol and thymol), and the probiotic based on Saccharomyces boulardi, an experiment was carried out with a duration of 28 days, involving 672 1-day-old male broiler chicks housed in batteries. The experimental design was randomized blocks, involving 4 blocks of 24 cages each, with 7 birds per cage. The experiment was divided into an initial phase from 1 to 14 days and a growth phase from 15 to 28 days of age. The rations were formulated based on corn and soybean meal as energy and protein ingredients, respectively. All birds were inoculated with Eimeria spp and C. perfringes at 14 days of age and with C. perfringes at 21 days of age. The results obtained showed that in the initial phase the best weight gain was the one in which the anticoccidial agent was used, but in the growth phase and in the entire experimental phase the results for this parameter were superior for all treatments with the use of additives. Regarding feed conversion, the birds that did not receive additives in the rations had the worst feed conversion in both phases and in the total period of creation. Regarding the scores of lesions in the digestive tract and counts in the cecum, the results showed no statistically significant differences between treatments. The use of the additives under study proved to be effective for the performance parameters of broilers challenged at 14 days of age with C. perfringes and Eimeria spp. and with C. perfringes at 21 days of age.
